Break The Internet Fest

Break The Internet Fest

On Saturday, September 10th, Break The Internet Fest took place at The Gateway Pavilion DC. This was the first year and it definitely started off on a good note. When you have Karen Civil as your host, you are definitely doing something right. The festival featured performances from DMV artists such as WillThaRapper and the legendary BackYard Band to artists like Kent Jones and Drezzy. In between sets, “BTI” had a variety of DJs spin from DJ Swerve to DJ QuikSilva.

The first performance I was able to see was Ressa Renee. She supplied nothing but positives to “BTI” and her style sets her apart from the average female artist. Her song Hello Mama is super dope and watching her perform it live made it even better.Even though she was one of the earlier set times, she had one of my favorite sets of the day.

Fast forward a bit we get to Kent Jones. The We The Best artist has seen a lot of success through out the year. From having a number 1 single to the amazing verse on DJ Khaled’s album Major Key. His set was brief but straight to the point being that technical issues plague the festival throughout the day.

Once Kent Jones left the stage, O.T. Genasis came out. O.T. is definitely a man of the people performing most of his set in the crowd. O.T. Genasis was my favorite performance of the night because he had the best energy and turnt the crowd up a few notches.

Up next was Jacquees and he didn’t disappoint. He combined his singing skills with some pretty smooth dances moves. What impressed me the most about his set was that even when the sound failed he kept performing like nothing happened. He performed a variety of songs from Set it Off to Come Thru. It was cool to see him perform cause there aren’t many performers who dance anymore.

After Jacquees finished, Yo Gotti came out. The CMG general was a way better live performer than I imaged. He performed a melody of hits from Down in the DM and Law to I Know and Errbody. With the Show having a hard 11 o’clock curfew Meek Mill came out and joined Gotti momentarily. After Gotti Left Meek showed out. He even had some special guests with him such as Shy Glizzy, YBS Skola and even Malik the DOPE Drummer. Not only did Meek Mill bring those guests, it felt like he brought all of SouthEast DC with him. Outside of the show, the streets where lined with people. Sitting on top of cars, trucks and steps to get a glimpse of Meek. The first Break The Internet fest was easily a success. Hopefully this is just the first of many to come.
